Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actress who is known for her role as the spirited attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. Her talent for acting was evident from childhood. An Maryland high-school competition awarded her the best actress award. Her acting diploma was earned from the New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company' and in theatre. Her first major role on screen in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love fetched an immense amount of admiration. Then came movies like "Boogie Nights Spark and Blue Streak. Her praise was for her role in Soul Food. Her TV appearances include Second Time Around and Empire. Earlier in the career she appeared in a variety of stage productions. Contractor was born in Mumbai and lived in Nigeria for seven years, experienced a variety of adventures and cultural encounters from an early age. From the age of seven to nine, the young lady went to boarding school in London. Her family moved to Toronto and she resided there throughout her early years. Contractor studied classical ballet in Toronto. She also excelled academically. She was enrolled in the Etobicoke School of the Arts. It's a high-school for the arts, in which she didn't just study theater but danced and also. Contractor, who had been dancing for nearly 10 years by the time she was and decided to pursue acting. When she graduated from high-school and was awarded a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double diploma in sociology and psychology. After one year at University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the production Pericles at the world-class famous, world-class Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the leading role. The play was well-received in the 92 plays she appeared in. She won the award in 2002 for the most outstanding production of the Year, as judged by Canadian Critics. The actress accepted an invitation to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course that allows only four males and eight females can attend a 20 weeks crash program in classical theatre. Contractor was guaranteed a spot in the following season of plays and landed the part as Hermia as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
