Wilsons fame was surpassed by the U.S. during 2014, after she was cast on Showtimes The Affair. In this show, Wilson performed the role of Alison Lockhart who is a young woman who is troubled and comes with a dark past. Lockhart has a crush on an unmarried Noah Solloway. Wilson received the Golden Globe in 2015 for Best Actress, Television Series Drama. The series also starred Maura Terney as well as Joshua Jackson. Wilson stated to British Vogue that she enjoyed being a character from both perspectives. Noah considers that Alison is the most confident, attractive and reckless self-image. But in real life Alison sees herself as dowdy. She continued: "I do believe America is moralistic and judgmental, so what happens in the show is shocking." Wilson has since left the show in shock for fans. But Wilson was very cryptic regarding additional specifics. On the CBS This Morning Interview in August 2018, Wilson said, "I did want to leave, but I'm not able to talk about the reason for it." Wilson has recently shifted her attention towards the world of film. She starred with the film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing who lives in the house in 2016 and then in the sci-fi rom-com How to Talk to Girls in Parties as the mysterious PT Stella. In addition to adding more terror genre to her film credits she is scheduled to appear in the British film version of The Little Stranger a supernatural thriller which is based on the novel written by Sarah Waters. Wilson is executive producing the movie.
